Support Halcyon

Seasons Greetings from Halcyon Theatre! We are amazed at how far we've come: Halcyon's fearless mainstage productions and celebrated Alcyone Festival have garnered international acclaim and support. Artists and audience members from as far away as Denmark have come to Chicago just to see our work, and we've only just begun. But we need your help.

Our potential to reach a newer and broader audience is right at our fingertips, but we need a permanent home to achieve our dreams. More than 55% of our per-show operating budget is spent on renting theatre space instead of our productions and programming. Halcyon Theatre's daring projects, such as A Shroud for Lazarus by award-winning Nigerian playwright Rotimi Babatunde, need a permanent home to continue growing and serving the community.

For instance, this year's Alcyone Festival celebrates the work of prize-winning María Irene Fornés, featuring five Chicago premieres and a Pulitzer finalist. The featured plays span forty years of Irene's staggering body of work that has profoundly influenced the American Theatre. (Festival runs Jan. 21-Feb. 27, 2010, at Lincoln Square Theatre.)

To continue producing shows, and to create educational opportunities, with such impact, we need your support: to give voice to the stories of refugees and the disenfranchised; to enable kids of different backgrounds to bring the theatrical process to life; and to provide a LOCATION for people to take advantage of all of Halcyon's great programming!

No matter how small or large, your contribution will help.
And while we know that not many people have $100,000, many do have $100, and even more have $10. So we invite you to join us in our mission to tell stories that create healing communal experiences and forge new paths forward.

In the season of giving, we hope that you will support Halcyon and give today! We are on a great path, but we want to do more. Help us make a difference in the Chicago community. Your donation is essential for Halcyon's success!

We work hard to keep ticket prices low .
Low ticket prices help us ensure anyone can see a Halcyon Theatre production, while maintaining the high quality our patrons have come to expect.  But we cannot do so without your support. Ticket sales cover only a fraction of our expenses.  It is with a grateful heart that we ask you to give to Halcyon Theatre; for your help with the rest. You can easily donate by clicking the donate today button to your right, or if you prefer you can mail your donation to Halcyon Theatre, 3334 W. Wilson #1, Chicago, IL 60625.

On Fornes

"When I feel sick of
plays, writing, theatre,
the whole business, I
sometimes think of yours
and I get a flicker
of what it is I like about it all . . ."
~ Caryl Churchill,
from A Poem for Maria Irene Fornes

"America has produced no dramatist of greater importance than Maria Irene Fornes . . . Her plays and productions profoundly altered my understanding of what theatre is . . ."
