Sharing a story is like sharing a meal; it brings people together.
Halcyon Theatre is a diverse group of artists focused on performing great stories from across our cultures, bringing people together the way a great meal does. In our 3rd Season, which begins in October, we will continue producing challenging work that entertains and engages our diverse audience. All we need is “a little help from our friends.”
Halcyon Theatre debuted in July of 2006, and has had critical and artistic success with each production. We produce three main-stage shows per season, choosing plays from around the world. In addition, we host a yearly festival dedicated to an in-depth examination on a selected topic.
This year's Alcyone Festival explored the female pioneers of playwriting, producing seldom seen works spanning 1000 years of female writers. Next year we will explore terrorism, the cult of martyrdom and its effects upon innocents.
We work hard to keep ticket prices low .
Low ticket prices help us ensure anyone can see a Halcyon Theatre production, while maintaining the high quality our patrons have come to expect. But we cannot do so without your support. The road to building and strengthening our communities through theatre is a challenging one, made more difficult by the fact that we do not have our own space to work in.
We are cultivating several community programs.
One program will use theatre to help recent immigrants and refugees ease the shock and transition of a new life here in Chicago. Another program will bring theatre to high school students, teaching them all aspects of theatre from selecting a play to performing it. We hope to bring teenagers together from different cultures and give them a creative outlet to explore their similarities and differences, while learning communication skills and team-building.
We just need a space to work in.
For $100,000 we could lease and renovate a permanent space in the Albany Park neighborhood large enough to produce all of our shows and programs. You can help fulfill our dream of working to make the world a better place by making a donation to the company today.
