In the south in 1893 Liza Pettigrew is pregnant with her first child. The night she is due to give birth, a they overhear their neighbor Sam's frantic screams for his mother as an angry mob is about to lynch him. As she goes into labor the mom to be makes a decision, hoping for a daughter. She does not want to raise a son in this world.
