Halcyon welcomes four more amazing artistic associates to the family. Latoya Jones, Sofia Mohammad, Andréa Morales, and Denise Santomauro.
Latoya Jones graduated from Southern Illinois University (SIU) at Carbondale in 2005 with a BA in Theatre and a minor in Psychology. Most Recently she staged managed Halcyon’s production of Yerma. She has assistant stage managed On the Verge (2004) and stage managed Home (2005) at the McLeod Theatre at SIU. She also stage managed the musical Honk! (2005) with the Stage Company Community Theatre in Carbondale for their summer children’s theater. She would also like to thank God for giving her strength, and her family, friends and boyfriend for all their love and support.
Sofia Mohammad grew up in the Puerto Rican/African-American neighborhoods of Chicago with a Mexican mother and a Pakistani father. She gave birth to Excuse Me Waiter, There’s Tandoori Chicken in My Tortilla Soup! in August of 2004 from work done in SÓLO LATINAS READING with Teatro Luna. Sofia is part of Salsation! Comedy Theater Company and Rasaka Theater Company. Sofia can be seen in the film, Urban Poet –featured in the 19th Annual Chicago Latino Film Festival – and commercial print advertisements.
Andréa Morales is proud to be a part of Halcyon Theatre. A native of Phoenix, Arizona, she returns to Chicago after performing Metro Theater Company’s national tour of José Cruz González’s Salt and Pepper. Recently, she was seen in Halcyon’s production of Yerma as Maria. Last summer, she had the pleasure of playing all of the women in Jeffrey with Hubris Productions, where she is also a company member. Andréa spent a wonderful five years as a company member of Childsplay in Tempe, AZ. Since then, she has performed with Chicago Theatre for Young Audiences in The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) and New Kid, and with Remy Bumppo in Tartuffe. Regional credits include Celia in As You Like It, Deb in Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Rosalí in Real Women Have Curves, and Leonella in the West Coast premiere of Cardenio. Mi familia es mi vida.
Denise Santomauro is super, duper excited to be a part of Halcyon Theatre. Before moving to Chicago, Denise attended Christopher Newport University, where she recieved a B.A. in Theater. Since her arrival to Chicago, Denise has worked with such companies as The Easy Street Players, The North Lakeside Cultural Center and Brown Couch. Most recently Denise was seen in Halcyon’s production of Yerma and she’s currently directing You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown with LaCosta Theatre. Denise is also an Ensemble Member with Imagination Theater, a social issues based children’s theater in Chicago. She would like to say that she thinks Tony Jr. is the coolest baby ever and she’d like to thank anyone who has ever been supportive of her, but especially her family and the Gregster.
